Meet Ben Grooms, Information Security Specialist in the IT Information Security Department at the University of Maine System

Where and What did you study in college?

I attended the University of Maine in Orono and studied Computer Engineering.

What is your current job?

I am an Information Security Specialist in the University of Maine Information Security Office.

What do you love most about your job?

I enjoy the level of collaboration on my team and the resources available.

Why have you chosen to stay in Maine to live and work?

I have the ability to be independent, but family, is within reach. I have invested in the community I live in, and it supports me and I believe there is more work to be done. I enjoy the quality of the living environment in Maine.

How did you get to where you are today?

Throughout my time at UMaine I have been heavily Involved in extracurricular activities and built up my technical skills, leadership skills, and communication skills which translated to real items to build my resume and draw me into interviews. Being involved in the community gave me the support I needed, and I also gained advice from those with experience. I also had the support of a navigator, ambassador and the TechHire Maine program.
